Our Farms

Direct trade

Our cotton grows in Faiyum, southwest of Cairo, where farming has followed the same rhythms for thousands of years. We've been there. We know the farms, and we know the people who run them.

Direct trade means we buy the raw material straight from the people who grow it, without intermediaries. It gives us three things: a price that reflects quality rather than a label, a clear line back to each harvest, and the ability to stand behind the entire path from field to home. It isn't the easiest way to buy cotton. It's the only way we can say with certainty what we're selling.

Picked by hand

Giza cotton's fibres are too long and too fine for mechanical harvesting. It's picked by hand instead, in several passes through the season, so only the properly ripened bolls are taken. It takes longer. It costs more. But it's the difference between cotton that can be spun into something exceptional, and cotton that can't.

Why Faiyum

Faiyum isn't a place we found through a supplier list. GIZAY was founded by an Egyptian, and the choices behind our farms, our cotton variety, and our production were made up close—with knowledge of the country, the language, and the people. That's the difference between buying Egyptian cotton and coming from it.
